Set Up Google Analytics Tracking Goals

Vacation Guide Goal Setup (Marketing Customers Only):

  1. Click “Goals” in the left hand menu under View
  2. Make sure that Vacation Guide is set up as a goal and is tracking conversions (only for Marketing customers)
  3. IF NOT:
    1. Click the red “+ New Goal” button

    2. Under “Goal Setup” select the “Custom” radio button and click “Continue”

    3. In “Name” enter the name “Vacation Guide”

    4. Under “Type,” select “Destination” and click “Continue”

    5. Under “Destination” add the Vacation Guide thank you page URL, using ONLY the part of the URL AFTER the .com – e.g. /thank-you

    6. Under “Funnel” turn the option to “On”

    7. In the Step 1 Funnel option, type “Vacation Guide” as the name, and input the Vacation Guide request page URL into the “Screen/Page” field (again, using only the part of the URL AFTER the .com, e.g. /city-state-vacation-guide).

    8. Set the “Required?” box to On and click “Save”

Set up Ecommerce Tracking

  1. Click “Ecommerce Settings” in the left hand menu under View

    1. Make sure “Enable Ecommerce” is set to On

    2. Make sure “enable Enhanced Ecommerce Reporting” is On

    3. Click the “Submit” button

    4. NOTE: For Ecommerce to track, the Google Analytics tracking code must match between the website and the booking engine (including both using the same version of Analytics, e.g. Classic vs Universal). Otherwise you will get either self-referral traffic or a message in Analytics that Ecommerce is on, but no information is flowing. IF this happens, work with the booking engine provider to make sure it is set up properly.

  2. Click the Back arrow to go back to the main Settings menu.

    1. Make an annotation if you enabled Ecommerce and it was not previously tracking, or if any other significant changes were made.

    2. Make sure to check back after several days to confirm that Ecommerce information is flowing and tracking correctly, and that the Vacation Guide goal is tracking (you can test this by requesting a Vacation Guide yourself and seeing if the conversion is tracked in Google Analytics)
